Winnebago County CASA is a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization that advocates for abused and neglected children within the Juvenile Court system. Our trained volunteers are appointed by a judge to represent the best interests of children in the abuse and neglect court. Our obligation is to ensure that the children we represent will be visited at least monthly, and that their needs, desires and circumstances will be reported to the court at every scheduled hearing. The Court Appointed Special Advocate/Guardian Ad Litem (CASA/GAL) will be the consistent person in the child’s life.

Thank you everyone who nominated and supported us! Special thanks and deep appreciation to the Anderson Automotive Group for your generous donation and dedication to supporting organizations in our community. COVID brought many challenges this year, including growth in child abuse. These funds will be used to help us increase our outreach and advocacy so our communities’ kids and families, as well as our volunteers, have the support they need!We are extremely honored and grateful!

National CASA recently shared the story below and it made me think of the boy walking along the beach. Give the gift of changing a life this season! Become a CASA volunteer. One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said…..“I made a difference for that one.”https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/21/opinion/sunday/charitable-holiday-gift-guide.html?

Today is the day! Today hundreds of people in our community are making the choice to help local nonprofits in these hard times. While so many things have changed this year, the one thing that we know hasn’t changed is the difference a CASA volunteer makes in the life of a child who has experienced neglect or abuse.Help us give the children we serve the opportunity to thrive in a safe, permanent, and loving home. Donate today to support the 1,300+ children in Winnebago County who are experiencing separation from their families and the uncertainty of foster care this holiday season. You can help us make their season and future brighter by donating now.
